Aerial (Drone) Photography

Thank you for your interest in aerial photography. It is important for clients to understand that this highly specialized form of photography/videography is regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NC DOT) and is subject to federal and state laws. I am a FAA/NC DOT Small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) certified commercial pilot, and my drone is registered with the FAA.

The most important thing for clients to know is while there are many areas in which I can take aerial images immediately, there are certain areas within the Triad (and other places, of course), that fall under regulated airspace. Therefore, before any drone photography/videography can be performed, an authorization must be submitted for approval to the FAA. This is particularly true with any property within a five (5) mile radius of Piedmont Triad international Airport (GSO), Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) as well as Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). Please submit the address of the property you wish photographed and I can let you know if your location falls under any FAA airspace that would require an authorization. If you are not an FAA sUAS (drone) licensed pilot, you may not fly a drone within 5 miles of an airport, no matter how little above the ground you are flying.

REALTORS, it is also worth noting, if you are an uncertified pilot (you have your own drone), you may not be able to use aerial photography to sell a property, even though you are not charging the client directly for producing the images. By using the images, and collecting a fee, or commission, as a result of using those images to sell a property, you may be violating FAA laws and/or regulations. Consult your legal counsel for further information.

As an FAA/NC DOT certified drone pilot, I am here to service your aerial photography needs.

See you in the skies!
